Plot Synopsis

Three scientists -- aerospace engineer Travis Taylor, statistician Tara Long, and science advocate Anthony Carboni -- answer questions about everyday occurrences with educational, and sometimes explosive, demonstrations, interactive games and experiments. Each 60-minute episode features a weather-inspired theme like lightning, tornadoes and clouds, as the hosts perform multiple experiments to demonstrate various features and answer multiple questions about each major natural phenomenon. In one episode, the hosts use mortar fireworks, tasers, homemade lightning and 10,000 ping pong balls to investigate lightning. Then, in another episode, the trio reveals the unexpected connections between tornadoes, wind, and toilets, while also answering questions about the realism of the movies SHARKNADO and TWISTER. On Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 7-10pm ET/PT, Weather Channel premiered three back-to-back episodes of 3 SCIENTISTS WALK INTO A BAR as a series sneak peek, and the cable channel aired the official series premiere more than four months later at 10pm ET/PT on Sunday, October 11, 2015 -- one week later than originally planned, because the October 4 telecast was pre-empted by live coverage of Hurricane Joaquin.
