Plot Synopsis

TRUE LIFE CRIME is a one-hour documentary series that follows Dometi Pongo as he investigates shocking and haunting crimes committed against young people, daring to ask unanswered questions that expose the truth. Each episode features a single case, including:

"Tragic Accident or Calculated Murder?" (January 8, 2020): The Kenneka Jenkins Case (Chicago, IL): Hours after going on Facebook live, 19-year-old Kenneka Jenkins vanished from a birthday party at a hotel in Chicago. The next day, her body was finally found in a hotel freezer. The investigation incited a firestorm as young people all over the country scoured social media for answers. What happened to Kenneka Jenkins? Premieres commercial free on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 9-9:42pm.

"Gang Target or Mistaken Identity?" (January 15, 2020): The Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz Case (Bronx, NY): 15-year-old Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz leaves home to meet with a friend but ends up brutally murdered. The violent crime is recorded by security cameras and bystanders causing the story to go viral on social media driving a community to seek #JusticeForJunior.

"Killed for Gender Identity or Secrets?" (January 22, 2020): The Kedarie Johnson Case (Burlington, IA): Shots ring out in the middle of the night and minutes later the body of 16-year-old Kedarie Johnson, a gender fluid teen, is discovered. Was Kedarie a target because of their gender identity or did the teen have a secret connection to the killer? The hunt for answers leads to a shocking discovery.

"Runaway or Targeted Runner?" (January 29, 2020): The Jerika Binks Case (American Fork, UT): 24-year-old Jerika Binks disappeared while out for a jog in a Utah canyon and no one hears from her again. As a recovering addict, did she relapse and runaway or was she another tragic victim of violence against women? A surprising discovery during the investigation changes everything.

"Skipping School or Silenced Forever?" (February 5, 2020): The Mujey Dumbuya Case (Grand Rapids, MI): 16-year-old Mujey Dumbuya leaves her home to catch the bus for school and vanished. Days later, her body resurfaced in a wooded area 45 miles from her home. The search for her killer reveals a shocking twist that devastates her family, friends and investigators.

"Suicide or Sinister Plot?" (February 12, 2020): The Sarah Stern Case (Neptune, NJ): Police discovered a car belonging to 19-year-old Sarah Stern abandoned on a bridge but she was nowhere to be found. They suspected suicide, but why would she withdraw thousands of dollars before she vanished? Sarah's ex-classmate goes undercover to reveal the truth and discovers a twist no one could have expected.

"The #5 Million Phone Hack (February 19, 2020): When 5 million dollars goes missing from dozens of unsuspecting victims, police uncover a massive case of identity theft committed by a 20-year-old hacker in order to bankroll his lifestyle of partying, lavish trips and designer clothing. This case reveals the extreme dangers facing everyone with a phone.

"Mom Gone Missing: Runaway or Murder Victim?" (February 26, 2020): The Hanna Harris Case (Lame Deer/Billings, MT): Hanna Harris, a 21-year-old mother went out to celebrate the Fourth of July with friends, but never returned home. Hours after, police discovered her car abandoned and five days later her body is found in a remote field. What happened to Hanna Harris?



Season 2 of TRUE LIFE CRIME premiered on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on MTV, with new episodes each night at 10pm through Thursday, July 15 and then continuing Tuesdays at 10pm through August 3 and then Tuesdays at 9pm for four more weeks:

"Religious Killing or Jealous Rage?" (Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 10pm): When the bodies of two unidentified women were found in a remote area near Galveston, TX, police had very few leads. Investigators, later, learned that the women, Britney Cosby and Crystal Jackson, were in a relationship.

"Cliffside Accident or Campsite Killing?" (Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 10pm): Lauren and a group of friends had been camping on a cliff during a raucous festival weekend when she went missing. She was, later, found dead by two fisherman in a nearby cove.

"Drive By or Deadly Target?" (Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 10pm): The fatal shooting of high school athlete Jaydon Chavez-Silver at a house party in Albuquerque,NM reveals a disturbing trend of violence in the community. Was this a targeted killing or a random act of violence?

"Runaway Twin or Twin In Trouble?" (Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 10pm): 16-year identical twin, Jholie Moussa, walked out the front door of her house, told her sister she would be right back and then vanished. Could her last ominous social media post be a clue to her disappearance?

"Cold Case or Case of Corruption?" (Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10pm): After 28-year-old single mom Heather Bogle was murdered in her rural Ohio town, a suspicious police investigation caused the victim's family to question whether they would ever find justice.

"Did a Viral Assault Lead to a Murder?" (Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 10pm): Dometi Pongo investigates the murder of Muhlaysia Booker, a transgender woman who was gunned down in Dallas just a month after surviving a vicious assault that went viral.

"Ohio House of Horrors" (Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 9pm): Several women go missing in a Midwestern town, but not every victim is given the same attention from investigators or the media until a bone-chilling 911 call reveals the unthinkable.

"Doublecross or Deadly Deal?" (Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 9pm): Dometi Pongo reports on Michigan detectives' efforts to identify a dismembered body and, with the help of cryptic text messages and surveillance footage, bring the killer to justice.

"Getting Away with Murder?" (Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 9pm): After transgender teen Mercedes Williamson was murdered in rural Mississippi, an FBI investigation led to a groundbreaking legal decision for LGBTQ+ rights.

On Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT, MTV premiered "Justice for Darrien," the Season 2 finale of TRUE LIFE CRIME. Police in Saratoga Springs, UT received a call about a mysterious, dangerous man walking around wielding a sword. Law enforcement claimed Darrien was a threat, but witnesses, family, and an independent investigation revealed otherwise.
