Plot Synopsis

UNLIKELY ANIMAL FRIENDS travels the world, searching for nature's oddest couples and showing the emotional power of animals to bond with other species. These unlikely animal duos include: Kate the dog and Pippin the deer, who like to nuzzle; Mtani the dog and Kasi the cheetah, who play and wrestle together; Safi the dog and Wister the donkey, who often hang out together. Ben a labrador retriever and Duggie the dolphin, who swim together -- often to the point of exhaustion for Ben; Robie the caracal and Bear the bobcat, who reside at WildCat Haven in Oregon; Fum the house cat and Gebra the barn owl, who like to hug; Lisa the rabbit and Paul the black leopard, who live at Serengeti Park in Germany; Leo the lion, Shere Khan the tiger, and Baloo the black bear, who play together at a wildlife rehabilitation center just south of Atlanta; Salati, a 14-month old leopard, and her golden retriever friend, Tommy, who live with the Booker family near Pretoria, South Africa; an orphaned elephant, Themnba, and Albert, a merino sheep from a neighboring farm; and many more odd interspecies friendships. UNLIKELY ANIMALS first appeared as two, one-hour specials on Nat Geo -- one on Saturday, September 26, 2009 and the other on Friday, January 7, 2011 -- before premiering as a four-episode series on Nat Geo Wild on January 23, 2012, with four new shows -- plus a best-of special -- broadcast on consecutive nights. On Friday, February 27, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, Nat Geo Wild premiered a new season of UNLIKELY ANIMAL FRIENDS. The season opener, "The Chihuahua and the Chicken," reveals personal stories of uncommon animal relationships that have gone viral on the Internet, including a two-legged disabled Chihuahua and his inseparable chicken friend; a mountaineer and his rock-climbing cat; and the goat who refuses to leave a donkey's side. Nat Geo Wild premiered the Season 2 finale of UNLIKELY ANIMAL FRIENDS on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT. The season ender, "Cheetah Cubs, Puppy Love," features a cheetah that is friends with a rhodesian ridgeback, a veterinarian who is friends with a pig, and a couple of dalmations that are cuddling partners with a cat.

On Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, Nat Geo Wild premiered "All Buddies Great and Small," the season finale of UNLIKELY ANIMAL FRIENDS. In the season ender, true friendship comes in all proportions, proving that size really doesn't matter.
