Plot Synopsis

Created and executive produced by Danny McBride and Jody Hill, who were also the creators of EASTBOUND & DOWN, VICE PRINCIPALS is a half-hour scripted comedy series that tells the story of North Jackson High School and the people who almost run it: the vice principals. Neal Gamby and Lee Russell are school administrators vying for the vacated top spot as school principal, only to see new rival Dr. Belinda Brown enter the picture. Putting their mutual disdain aside, these two bitter antagonists form an unholy alliance to bring down the outsider by any means necessary. Told over the course of a single school year and shot in and around Charleston, SC, the nine-episode first season takes place during the fall, with the nine-episode second season set to cover the spring term. Guest stars for the first season include Billy Murray, Susan Park, and Maya Love. VICE PRINCIPALS had its world premiere at SXSW 2016, where it won the 2016 Audience Award. The nine-episode second season of VICE PRINCIPALS premiered on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 10:30pm ET/PT on HBO. As the tumultuous school year at North Jackson High continues, a new semester brings big changes -- and Gamby and Russell are about to learn that the only thing harder than gaining power is holding on to it. In the season opener, "Tiger Town," recovering from his wounds, Gamby returns to a dramatically changed North Jackson High and finds in his absence that Nash was appointed vice principal of discipline. Season 2 guest stars include Fisher Stevens as a scholarly rival to Gamby for Amanda's attentions; Scott Caan as a teambuilding trainer; Maya Love as Gamby's daughter, Janelle; and Susan Park as Russell's wife, Christine.
