Plot Synopsis

Based on Robyn Carr's "Virgin River" Harlequin book series, VIRGIN RIVER is one-hour drama series that centers on Melinda 'Mel' Monroe, who answers an ad to work as a nurse practitioner in the remote northern California town of Virgin River thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind. But she soon discovers that small-town living isn't quite as simple as she expected and that she must learn to heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home. After finding an abandoned baby on Doc Mullins's doorstep, Mel and her boss argue over whether to call Social Services or find the newborn's mother. Mel considers being a temporary foster parent to Chloe while grappling with her own grief. Jack works to convince her to stay in Virgin River. On Friday, December 6, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released the 10-episode first season of VIRGIN RIVER.

Season 2 of VIRGIN RIVER debuted on Friday, November 27, 2020, as Netflix released the entire 10-episode new season at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. The new season opens with Jack asking Mel for help when Charmaine experiences a complication in her pregnancy, and Hope insisting that Doc keep their relationship a secret. Then, despite Mel's efforts, Charmaine's stay at Hope's house gets off to a rocky start. A situation involving Paige's past intensifies unexpectedly.

In Season 3, Mel and her loved ones in Virgin River support each other while facing all sorts of troubles, including death, a fire, custody arguments, breakups and more. The season opens with Mel attempting to avoid celebrating her birthday while remembering the past. Then, Doc confirms his troubling diagnosis and begins looking for his replacement. On Friday, July 9, 2021, Netflix released the entire 10-episode third season of VIRGIN RIVER.

The fourth season of VIRGIN RIVER debuted on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, as Netflix released the entire 12-episode new season. Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark or Jack, Mel begins Season 4 with a sense of optimism. For years she yearned to be a mother and her dream is one step closer to reality. While Jack is supportive and excited, the question of paternity continues to gnaw at him. Complicating matters is the arrival of a handsome new doctor, who's in the market to start a family of his own. Hope is still healing from her car accident, and the lingering psychological effects of her brain injury will have profound consequences for both her and Doc. Brie, intent on proving the innocence of the man she loves, unexpectedly finds herself in a closer relationship with Mike and one step closer to Calvin's violent criminal web. Even as Preacher forges a new romantic connection, he can't help but hold out hope for being reunited with Christopher and Paige.

Season 5 of VIRGIN RIVER debuted on Thursday, September 7, 2023 on Netflix, which released the first 10 episodes of the new season. Season 5 features surprising new relationships, a shocking break-up, a difficult court trial, a heartbreaking goodbye, and a wildfire that threatens the town, bringing some people of Virgin River together while tearing others apart. Issues of motherhood push Mel to make a big decision about her future at the clinic while her pregnancy unexpectedly sparks an emotional connection to her past. To further prove himself to Mel, Jack squares off with some long-overdue confrontations -- with his own demons, and of course, Charmaine. And as Doc and Hope's respective impairments throw their identities into question, the doctor and the mayor must find solace in their community, in their young new family, and in each other.

"The More the Merrier": As the holidays get underway, visiting relatives bring drama to town. Mel and Jack try to track down the author of the mysterious letters to her mother.

"Father Christmas": Shocking news and unexpected gifts are in store on Christmas Eve as couples and families come together despite their differences.

VIRGIN RIVER has been renewed for a sixth season.
