Plot Synopsis

WHEN EAGLES DARE: CRYSTAL PALACE F.C. is a one-hour docuseries that chronicles the story of England's Crystal Palace football club from January 2010 through May 2013. Playing in the Football League Championship (English football's second division), Crystal Palace F.C. was placed into administration in January 2010 with debts of 30 million pounds, the team was penalized 10 points, sold its best player to Wigan, and lost its manager in March. On the brink of extinction, four fans attempted to strike a deal with Lloyds Bank to save the club they've supported since childhood. Crystal Palace avoid plummeting to English football's third division in 2010 by only 2 points. Midway through the 2010-2011 season, club legend Dougie Freedman was promoted from assistant manager to manager, and the team rallied to again avoid relegation. In the next season, the frontline finally clicked, Wilfried Zaha was on fire, and the team's fortune improved -- finishing 17th in the table and reaching the semifinals of the League Cup. The 2012-13 season started well and Freedman left the team to manage Bolton. Ian Holloway came bounding in the door to lead the team. Even with a promotion-winning pedigree, taking over a winning team is a tough job. Especially when Manchester United come calling for the team's best player. But the wheels come off. Chairman Steve Parish's nightmare of Bolton beating Palace to the playoffs is a real possibility. Excitement builds for the fans as the big day out at Wembley nears, but it's business as usual for Ollie and his boys in the Championship Final. No sunshine break on a beach, just a 39-year-old on a bench. And the teams takes Watford 1-0 in extra time, earning promotion to the Premier League.
