Plot Synopsis

Hosted by Ananda Lewis, WHILE YOU WERE OUT features an all-star cast comprised of designers from both TLC and HGTV. As the first series co-production between TLC and HGTV, episodes premiere simultaneously on both networks. With a budget of $10,000 per room, each set of designers and carpenters will design one room in neighboring houses after the home owner sends their significant other on a weekend getaway. The ultimate surprise reveal culminates each episode upon their return. One home will include TLC designers and the other, HGTV designers:

TLC designers: Carter Oosterhouse, Doug Wilson, Frank Bielec, Hildi Santo Tomas, Kahi Lee, Sabrina Soto, Ty Pennington and Vern Yip.

HGTV designers: Bristol and Aubrey Marunde, David Visentin, Hilary Farr, Karen E Laine, Mina Starsiak, Nicole Curtis and Vanilla Ice and carpenters Eric Griffin and Jordan Thompson.

In the series opener, "Let the Fur Fly," best friends and sporting rivals Jen and Steph have called in TLC&'s Hildi and Ty and HGTV's Karen and Mina to create two college football-themed rooms for their unsuspecting husbands. One house is smooth sailing, while the other hits a road block.
On Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, TLC premiered the season finale of WHILE YOU WERE OUT. In the season ender, "When Homeowners Strike Back," with the help of rap legend Vanilla Ice and Nicole from HGTV's REHAB ADDICT along with designers Kahi and Doug from TLC, two wives want to take their husbands' home offices from drab to fab. The only thing stopping them is the storm that's rolling in.
