Plot Synopsis
WOMEN ON DEATH ROW is a one-hour docuseries that tells the stories of America's most rarefied criminals: women who have been convicted of murder and sentenced to the ultimate punishment -- the death penalty. Each 60-minute episode profiles a harrowing crime and trial through exclusive interviews with the convicted women, witnesses, family members of victims, family members of the convicted women, attorneys, and law enforcement officials. The series also covers the appeals process, including re-sentencing in some cases, and looks at how new legislation in some states impacts the conditions under which the convicted women live in prison as they await their fate.
In the series opener, "Shawna Forde," Shawna Forde was convicted for a 2009 crime that resulted in the violent murders of Raul Flores and his 9-year-old daughter Brisenia. She was sentenced to death and now lives on death row in Arizona awaiting her execution, although she maintains her innocence. She, along with her family members, experts, and those who worked on the case, reflect on the crime, death row as a whole, and how their lives have been affected due to the sentencing.
Additional episodes are:
"Emilia Carr" (August 11, 2023): Emilia Carr is sentenced to death for killing her boyfriend's ex, a murder she committed while 7-months pregnant. (Marion County, Florida)
"Linda Carty" (August 18, 2023): St. Kitts native and British citizen Linda Carty is sentenced to death for kidnapping and killing Joana Rodriguez in an attempt to steal her three-day-old baby and pass him off as her own. (Houston, Texas)
"Kerry Lyn Dalton" (August 25, 2023): Kerry Lyn Dalton is given the death penalty after she is convicted of torturing and killing Irene "Melanie" May by stabbing her, beating her, and injecting her with battery acid. (San Diego, CA)
"Sandy Nieves" (September 1, 2023): Sandi Nieves, a PTA mom and lifelong rule follower, is sentenced to death for setting fire to her home and killing her four daughters. (Santa Clarita, California)
"Melissa Lucio" (September 8, 2023): Melissa Lucio, a Texas woman sentenced to death for the murder of her two-year-old daughter, is given an execution date of April 27, 2022. As the date nears, however, details emerge that call the investigation, conviction, and sentence into question. (Cameron County, Texas)
