Plot Synopsis

BUYING THE BAYOU is a reality series that follows people looking for homes in the swamps, marshes, and waterways of America's Gulf Coast, as Cajun real-estate agents help their quirky clients search for the swampfront shack of their dreams. Whether they're looking for an alligator farm or a converted fishing boat, these home buyers weigh the pros and cons of each home and then decide which property meets their needs, budgets, and Bayou dreams. Each 30-minute episode features an agent showing three properties, one of which is selected by a different set of house seekers, including: three best friends -- Duck, Lathan, and Flip -- who are gator hunters looking for a home with gators in the backyard; two workaholics, Bryan and Stephanie, who are searching for a weekend houseboat on the Pearl River; a father and daughter, who enjoy hand-grabbing catfish and are looking for a home that will become a catfish cam; David and Jackie, who are looking for a fixer-upper on the bayou in Mississippi; and more home buyers looking for places where they can fish off their back porch, commute by boat, or hunt gators for a living. Immediately following a marathon (6-10pm ET/PT) of encore episodes, BUYING THE BAYOU returned for the second half of Season 1, as Destination America aired back-to-back new episodes on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 10-11pm ET/PT.
On Monday, April 13, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Destination America premiered the second season of BUYING THE BAYOU, showing back-to-back new episodes immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes from Season 1. In the season opener, "Swamps, Moss and Fast Boats," drag boat racing couple Ryan and Linda are looking for a home in the largest lake in Texas, Caddo Lake. Ryan's main focus in a home is making sure he has a place to race and store his boats, but Linda is concerned about having enough space for everyone. Then, in the night's second new episode, "$100,000 Waterfront Bargains," Captain Henry and his wife, Danielle, are looking for a waterfront home for less than $100,000. To find a bargain on the water they will travel between two states, Louisiana and Mississippi.
