Plot Synopsis
Executive produced and narrated by Jim Parsons, YOUNG SHELDON is a half-hour comedy series that centers on THE BIG BANG THEORY's Sheldon Cooper -- specifically his life as a child, when he was a once-in-a-generation nine-year-old capable of advanced mathematics and science, but who learned that it wasn't always helpful growing up in East Texas, a land where church and football are king. While the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naive Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him. His father, George, is struggling to find his way as a high school football coach and as father to a boy he doesn't understand. Sheldon's mother, Mary, fiercely protects and nurtures her son in a town where he just doesn't fit in. Sheldon's older brother, Georgie, does the best he can in high school, but it's tough to be cool when you're in the same classes with your odd 9-year-old brother. Sheldon's twin sister, Missy, sometimes resents all the attention Sheldon gets, but she also remains the one person who can reliably tell Sheldon the truth. Finally, there's Sheldon's beloved Meemaw, his foul-mouthed, hard-drinking Texas grandmother who is very supportive of her grandson and his unique gifts. YOUNG SHELDON premiered on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 8:30pm ET/PT, took a scheduled break during CBS's coverage of the National Football League on Thursday nights, and returned five weeks later in its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 8:30pm -- with a new episode, "Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System." To appease his worried mother, Sheldon employs the techniques of a self-help book to try and make a friend.
Season 2 of YOUNG SHELDON premiered on a special night -- Monday, September 24, 2018 at 8:30pm ET/PT on CBS -- before moving to its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 8:30pm -- beginning September 27. In the special season opener, "A Rival Prodigy and Sir Isaac Neutron," when Dr. John Sturgis (guest star Wallace Shawn) bonds with Paige (guest star Mckenna Grace), another 10-year-old genius, Sheldon's jealousy leads Meemaw to intervene. Also, Mary invites Paige's family over for a play date. Then three days later, CBS debuted "A Rival Prodigy and Sir Isaac Neutron," the time-slot premiere of YOUNG SHELDON.
