42 Late-Night TV Series and Their First Guests

After months of buzz, weeks of commercials, and days of practice, The Jay Leno Show debuts tonight with Jerry Seinfeld as Jay's first guest. Is 10PM the new late night? Or will NBC's experiment fail as it tries a late-night style show during primetime? We'll soon find out.

Regardless of how Leno does in the ratings, Seinfeld joins an exclusive club as a first guest. Of course, Bill Murray leads that club, having received the honor three different times. Who else was a first guest? TV Tango went through the archives and found 42 first guests of late-night TV — all since Late Night with David Letterman premiered back in February 1982.

Check out the list below to see who was the first guest on your fave late-night program.  We only included series that started at 10PM or later; so you won't find Dogg After Dark or any other early primetime (or daytime) talk shows.  If we found a clip of the premiere episode, we included a link for that video.  (If you find a clip we don't have, just leave a comment and we'll update the list.)

Enjoy!
