Plot Synopsis

Narrated by Virginia Gay (Season 4) and Aussie actress Naomi Watts (Seasons 1-3), SECRETS OF THE ZOO: DOWN UNDER is a one-hour docuseries that focuses on the animals and veterinary staff at Australia's Taronga Zoo Sydney, which employs more than 240 keepers who care for 5,000-plus animals. As with other series in the SECRETS OF THE ZOO franchise, this installment provides rare, behind-the-scenes access while also bringing to focus the horrific wildfires that have killed more than a billion of the continent's animals. In the series opener, "Project Platypus," the Taronga Zoo attempts to create history by successfully exporting two platypuses to America.

The third season of SECRETS OF THE ZOO: DOWN UNDER premiered on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at 10:15pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild. In the season opener, "Five's a Crowd," the keepers guess how many cubs Mayah the lioness will give birth to.

Season 4 of SECRETS OF THE ZOO: DOWN UNDER debuted on Nat Geo Wild on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 9pm ET/PT. In the season opener, "Giraffe Jimiyu," in one of the biggest vet procedures ever performed at Taronga Zoo nearly thirty staff and specialists are involved in the risky sedation of their 5.5-meter tall giraffe Jimiyu.
