Plot Synopsis

Naturalist and bear-expert Casey Anderson treks across North America, as he searches for wolverines, black bears, lizards, vultures, grizzly bears, rattlesnakes and other elusive and endangered species. Each 60-minute episode features an expedition to a different location, including these journeys in Season 1: the frozen wilds of Alaska and British Columbia, where Casey intends to capture never-before-seen footage of wolverines as they hunt and interact with other wildlife; the North Rim of Arizona's Grand Canyon, where Casey finds that plants and animals in this Southwest desert landscape have evolved to respond to the unique demands of the desert; Yellowstone, which is home to over 400 species, where Casey tails turkey vultures to help him find and observe animal carcasses as they are devoured by ravenous creatures; Northern Maine, where Casey finds himself in the den of a wild black-bear family and then later meets an orphaned six-week-old cub he teaches to walk, swim, climb, and raid a beehive; and many more dangerous journeys in the United States and Canada. During BIG CAT WEEK 2011, Nat Geo Wild aired "Stalking the Mountain Lion," a sneak-peek episode of this series, as a special on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 8pm ET, with the official series premiere three months later on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 8pm ET. When this series premiered, Nat Geo Wild aired repeat episodes of EXPEDITION WILD WITH CASEY ANDERSON with the title AMERICA THE WILD, and although Nat Geo Wild and Casey Anderson consider AMERICA THE WILD a new series, the production company called AMERICA THE WILD Season 2 of EXPEDITION WILD. The season numbering became even more confusing when a Nat Geo Wild press release proclaimed Casey Anderson was returning for a fourth season in the announcement for new episodes of AMERICA THE WILD beginning August 2013 -- that would be two seasons of EXPEDITION WILD, and now a second season of AMERICA THE WILD, but many outlets are calling these episodes as Season 4 of AMERICA THE WILD.

Season 2 of AMERICA THE WILD returned on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Nat Geo Wild, as Casey searched for wolves around Vancouver Island, Tofino, and New Mexico. In later episodes of Season 2, Casey reveals the battle between mountain lions and bighorn sheep and then tracks vampire bats in a cave dubbed the torture chamber, located in the jungles on the banks of the Rio Usumacinta in Mexico.
